Libyan pro-military leaders and revolutionaries on Saturday condemned the election of Fathi Bashaghi as head of a new government, a move that risks sparking a new power struggle in the war-torn country.

In a statement read in the Martyrs' Square in the capital Tripoli, they said that the supporting forces condemn the "absurd situation that is contrary to the results of the political dialogue platform and wants the country to enter a new phase of transition."

According to them, the decisions taken by the House of Representatives (HoR) in its last meeting in Tobruk "did not follow fair and transparent procedures."

They expressed "strong support for parliamentary elections, a constitutional referendum and presidential elections as soon as possible," the statement said.

On the other hand, the head of the Supreme Council of State (SSC), Khalid al-Mishri, said that the appointment of Bashagi instead of Dbeiba was based on the text after a "rare agreement" between the parliamentary bodies on Saturday.

However, the incumbent Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeiba, rejected the move and promised to remain in power until the national elections are held.

Libya's Un Backed Government Receives Military Hardware In Spite Of Arms Embargo

Bashaga and Dbeiba enjoy the support of rival armed groups in the Libyan capital. The position of the United Nations and major powers will determine the outcome of the transitional government's struggle after many years of foreign countries being involved in the conflict. The United Nations continued to support Dbeiba after the vote in the House of Representatives. However, the United Nations said on Friday that Secretary-General António Guterres considered the decision of the parliament to appoint Bashaga, as well as the decision of the parliament, as well as the HCS, to plan a revised electoral process.

Stephanie Williams, the UN Special Adviser on Libya, said free and fair elections in Libya should be held "as soon as possible" when she met with Dbeiba and Bashaga.

Referendums in Libya were scheduled for December 24 but were delayed due to disagreements between political rivals. A new date for voting has not yet been agreed.

Libyans hope the election will help end the armed conflict that has plagued the oil-rich country for years.

The Libyan army announced that militias linked to rebel General Khalifa Haftar fired six Grad missiles at its headquarters west of the northern city of Sirte in the second breach of the truce in three days.

Libyan army spokesman Colonel Mohammed Kununu said in a statement: "At 00:06 (22:06 GMT on Tuesday evening), our forces detected an expected violation of the ceasefire declaration, which is the second of its kind in less than at 72."

He has explained that the Libyan army is fully prepared and is waiting for instructions from the Supreme Leader Fayez al-Sarraj to deal with and respond to fire sources at the right time and place. On August 27, the Libyan army announced the first ceasefire violation when Haftar's militia fired more than 12 missiles at a Libyan army base west of Sirte.

The spokesman of Haftar's militia, Ahmed Al-Mismari, has said that the ceasefire has not been violated, saying that the purpose of the Libyan government's statement is to hide the protests in Tripoli.

The ceasefire was reached on August 21, according to two statements by the opposition Presidential Council of the Libyan government and the Tobruk House of Representatives in support of Haftar, who is fighting the Government of National Accord (GNA) led by al-Sarraj legitimately and power. in a country rich in oil.

Is Attack In Libya Kills 3 Security Personnel: Ministry

Soldiers march during a graduation ceremony for conscripts into the Libyan army in Tripoli, the capital, January 16. The army, which has suffered years of Muammar Gaddafi's rule and NATO attacks, faces many challenges as it tries to rebuild.

Another day, a shootout broke out in the west of Tripoli, the capital of Libya, a war between two families. It takes hours to build; people run to hide. No one interferes, even though the Libyan military base is only a mile away.

This military camp in the town of Zawiya is housing 230 youths from across the North African nation as part of the government's efforts to address the country's biggest problem: the non-existent security forces.

Three years after the fall of dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Libya is still in crisis, a country rich in oil but insecure. Many areas are still under the weak control of local warlords and militias.

Egypt Readies Army To Intervene In Libya 'if Necessary'

The creation of a real national army would help solve the problem. Although world powers are trying to help with training and equipment, progress is slow.

This is about 230 people undergoing military training in a camp near Tripoli. On the day of the visit, gunshots could be heard about a mile away. No one intervened. Leyla Fadel/ hide quote

Gaddafi was worried that the same forces he used to seize power in the country 45 years ago would eventually overthrow him. So he bombed a military that was further damaged by the 2011 NATO attack that brought down his regime. And then the arsenals were looted, and a flood of weapons and heavy weapons poured across Libya.

Libyan Military

If you look at the army now, something is missing. There are many old officers, who defected from Gaddafi's army. There are those employed who have not reached their youth. But there is no one among them.

Darfur Rebels Building Up Military Strength In Libya

During an interview in the office of the chief of staff in Tripoli, spokesman Colonel Ali al-Shehi lays out the restrictions.

"The biggest problem is the massive supply of weapons," he says. "And there is not much unity, so there are forces that are loyal to tribes or districts, and it is difficult to break them."

After Gaddafi's death, security passed to the so-called revolutionaries who fought against him. The government pays them even when it tries to destroy them. But the militants do not trust the authorities to share power.

At the same time, the loyalty of the militia was divided. Some respond to the government, others to individual MPs from the opposition. Others are loyal only to the tribe, the city, and themselves.

Libya Official: Renewed Militia Clashes In Tripoli Kill 13

It is not that Libya is a failed country, analysts and Libyan officials say, it is that the government has not yet emerged.

The elected parliament has done little to build democracy on the ruins of dictatorship. Just last week, Libyans elected a committee to write a constitution.

The government pays the militants out of fear and necessity, and maintains some influence over them. But this did not stop armed groups from regularly entering the National Assembly with weapons and besieging ministries. In the summer, the prime minister was kidnapped for several hours, and suspected militants are among many on the government's payroll.

A member of a heavily armed militia group with weapons in Freedom Square in Benghazi, Libya on February 18. Most of the militants are paid by the government.

When asked how big the Libyan army is now, Shehi replied that he did not know. The ministry pays at least 180,000 people, but most of those salaries belong to Gaddafi's ex-soldiers; The actual number is only a fraction of these forces.

Further down the corridor from Shekhi's office, the army is talking to British advisers - apparently a military liaison - about preparations.

A video is shown on TV showing the militants wearing ill-fitting military uniforms and armed with rocket-propelled grenades. These are pictures from local television cameras that criticize the militants. It had been raided the night before, looted and shot with RPGs. The entire incident was captured by CCTV cameras and broadcast live. Hardly anyone is arrested.

Licence Plate Game - It's hard to believe it's almost halfway through September and the kids are back in school! I'm still catching up on the summer post!

This summer we hit the road and one of the things I did before we left was put together a travel folder for each boy. I filled them with fun printables that I put on clear glass protectors (so they can be erased and start over), coloring pages, activities, stickers, etc. The kids had a blast (although J could have done without it - he's not old enough to paint).

Licence Plate Game

One of the things I put in the binder was the license plate game, and let me tell you, Dave and I probably had more fun with that than K. Oh, the competition! There is actually a printable that shows all license plates in Canada and the US. We have created a permanent contest for two weeks. Whoever sees the new plate first wins a point. If you have a plate scratched from your list, the point will go to someone else.

State License Plate Game

This is a great game for older kids on long trips. And also for competitive adults 😉

After two weeks, we were able to cross a total of 33 licenses out of 63. The only Canadians we didn't find were Yukon and Nunavut (And yes, I counted the Northwest Territories, polar bear-shaped and all ).

I made my own printable since the only version I found online didn't include Canadian provinces. So far this is the ONLY version I've seen that has Canadian provinces and US states.

How Did Elmo Die - "Somehow I took part of it back, obviously he took it, and it's part of it in many ways," said Candy Scarbrough. Candy Scarbrough

Candy Scarbrough says she felt "God urged" her to make her late son's birthday easier this year. That blessing came in the form of the adorable Elmo doll.

How Did Elmo Die

How Did Elmo Die

In 2005, Scarbrough's son, Tucker, is born with a heart defect. After many complications and a stroke, he passed away in 2009 at the age of three. Before his death, Tucker lost his beloved toy Elmo, or as he was affectionately called "Melmo".

Fast forward to this year, as his 14th birthday approaches, Scarbrough and his family reconnect with Melmo after experiencing what he calls a "goddess."

"We started him on 'Elmo's World' before he could walk," said Scarbrough, a lactation consultant from Knoxville, Tennessee. "He took her everywhere. He was a comfort game for her."

Elmo accompanied Tucker on doctor's visits and hospital stays, comforting him as a "traveling companion" through three heart-reconstructive surgeries.

With Elmo gone, Scarbrough struggles to replace the toy. "His Elmo is old and grumpy and very hairy," he explained. "The new Elmos are all silk and they talk. You won't find a fluffy old Elmo like that." (He eventually found a suitable replacement on eBay, but in a non-Elmo scene, Tucker showed interest.)

Why Is Elmo Trending On Twitter?

Scarbrough's Facebook friend Megan Flanagan is a former GC photographer. Penny, the site identifies with the Elmo doll in a photo that Scarborough posted to social media. They'd known each other for years, mostly professionally, but Flanagan had no idea the Elmo doll meant so much to both of them.

"That's not what I'm going to say," Scarbrough said. "He didn't know until he saw my Facebook post where I said the wrong thing that he loves Elmo. And I don't know why I said it."

Apparently Flanagan wasn't working in the studio when the Elmo doll went missing, but he kept it so the other kids could smile at the photos — and brought it home when he was done working there. In a panic, he manages to reach Scarbrough and return the doll to its rightful owner.

How Did Elmo Die

"I took it back from Megan the day before Tucker's fourteenth birthday," Scarbrough said. “That's a very powerful message. Because losing a child doesn't make it any better.

Bringing Elmo back into her life is like getting a part of her son back. He continued, "Christmas was a bit painful, so we could focus on a part of Tucker's life and something that he really loved. He took it, and that was part of him inside of him."

Scarbrough said of the attention: "I can't say what that means to me... 10 years later people don't even remember I had a baby who died." "People remember something important in their lives. Knowing that people are enjoying their lives 10 years later is inspiring to me."

How Dangerous Are Pandas - Wildlife Informer is a sponsored reader. When you click and buy, we may earn an affiliate commission at no cost to you. Learn more.

You have seen many videos of adorable pandas playing or eating bamboo. Pandas are from southern China and are often described as cute and lazy. It's easy to think that these fluffy black-and-white cute bears are friendly and non-threatening. However, they are still wolves. So, are pandas dangerous? Will they attack people?

How Dangerous Are Pandas

How Dangerous Are Pandas

It is best to learn the answers to these questions first before you decide to go panda in the wild. Find out how dangerous pandas are and whether you can hug them or not.

This Is The World's Only Brown Panda

Although they look cute, pandas are dangerous to humans and can seriously injure you. They have strong jaw muscles and large muscles that can deliver a powerful bite, with a bite of up to 292 pounds. This is one of the strongest bite forces among carnivores and is enough to easily injure a human leg.

Their physical strength and strong grip are not to be taken lightly. Adult males can weigh up to 280 pounds! These wolves are also very fast and have good climbing and swimming skills, which makes them less crazy and lazy than some people think.

Usually, pandas are seen alone and are quiet animals that prefer to avoid conflict. However, they will attack if they feel threatened and cannot escape. When a giant panda attacks a person, it escalates out of provocation or threat - not aggression.

However, if you see a baby panda, the mother may act aggressively to protect her cubs. Male pandas can also become aggressive with each other when competing with females or trying to assert dominance.

Panda Tongues Evolved To Protect Them From Toxins, Study Suggests

Compared to other species of bears, the giant panda is one of the species that is considered less dangerous. The American black bear is also known to be less hostile than most animals, preferring to flee people when given the chance. However, wolves of any species that protect their cubs are considered very dangerous.

One of the most aggressive and dangerous bear species known for hunting and eating people is the polar bear. Grizzly wolves are very aggressive and have been known to kill humans. Additionally, sloth and black Asian bears are more likely to attack humans and are considered more dangerous than pandas.

Yes, pandas can attack people. In the wild, he rarely comes close to people and prefers to find food and stay away. However, if they feel threatened they will defend themselves. This also applies to pandas in captivity.

How Dangerous Are Pandas

At least three separate panda attack incidents occurred at the Beijing Zoo alone. Once, a giant panda bit the leg of someone entering the yard and tried to touch them. The panda refused to let go of the leg, causing a huge mess.

No Panda Party Is Complete Without A Cake

No, pandas don't eat people. There have been no cases where a panda has been found eating human flesh. Pandas often attack humans in self-defense, not in search of their next meal.

Their diet is usually herbivorous and consists of bamboo shoots and leaves. However, their stomachs can digest less meat. In rare cases, you can see them eating the meat of rats, birds or dead animals. Sometimes zoos also give them eggs.

Maybe you shouldn't. Pandas are still wolves with artificial claws and teeth and unpredictable behavior. Approaching a wild panda for a hug can be a threatening act that triggers an attack. Pandas also have fleas, ticks, and ants which should make you think twice before hugging them.

However, in China, there are places where visitors can touch or hug a panda to take pictures or sign a pledge for pandas. However, the government regulations on this are not clear and it is easy to close the job and there is a conflicting control over it.

Giant Panda Research Center & Jinli Old Street

Pandas may look cute and attractive, but these bears still have powerful claws and strong jaw muscles that can deliver a powerful bite. They are not as aggressive as other types of bears but they are still protective of their cubs and will fight when they feel threatened. Pandas are also no strangers to attacking humans, so be careful around them and think twice before trying to hug one!

These creatures are native to central China, and more than 1,800 live in their natural habitat. About 600 pandas live in zoos and breeding centers, according to the Smithsonian National Zoo. They are similar to bears in size and genetics: Giant pandas are closely related to polar bears, writes Phys.org.

How Dangerous Are Pandas

They are solitary animals and prefer to avoid fighting, says the World Wildlife Fund, but they have sharp claws and teeth and can attack to protect themselves or their young if provoked.

These Cuddly Pandas Are More Dangerous Than They Look

The International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine analyzed three cases of giant panda attacks to warn people that animals can be dangerous. In one incident, a drunk visitor at the Beijing City Zoo jumped on a giant panda while trying to pet the panda, only to be badly bitten by its calf. He was left with a disability and open wounds. In two other cases, male visitors accidentally fell into the courtyard and were bitten by giant pandas.

In one incident, a giant panda seriously injured a Chinese animal rights activist. Wei Hua, the panda's caretaker, suffered serious injuries, including broken ankles, broken bones, muscle loss and the loss of a third of her left hand, People's Daily Online reported.

There is no record of a panda killing a person, but past attacks clearly show that you need to be careful if you enter panda territory.

As stuffed animals, in popular culture and in animal stereotypes, pandas are seen as peaceful and lazy creatures. This is simply not true, wrote research scientist Bill McShea in The Washington Post.

Giant Panda At Edinburgh Zoo Sick With Colic

"In fact, they hurt each other, especially when men gain dominance or compete with women," McShea writes. "Chinese men in the Qinling mountains are often seen with split ears and bite wounds after fighting with other men.

Pandas are slow to move but are more active than other bears because they don't sit down and are always looking for food. As McShea writes, "Giant pandas are not lazy, just comfortable."

Fortunately, there are ways to breed pandas under supervision. If you are going to stop at anything to touch one of these creatures, there are a few ways you can give your time and energy to do exactly that in China.

How Dangerous Are Pandas

Check out the one-day Dujiangyan Panda volunteer program, which costs around $280 and includes less glamorous work like cleaning the pandas' droppings and enclosures, but offers a chance to hang out and feed the pandas.

Do Pandas Make Great Pets? What You Need To Know

There is also Wolong Nature Reserve's Shenshuping Base panda volunteer program, which is a two-day program that includes a visit to the panda museum, cleaning and feeding the panda, and a visit to the breeding center. The program costs about $367 per person, China Discovery reports.

Pandas were listed as endangered in 1990, but the International Union for Conservation of Nature upgraded them to "vulnerable" in a 2016 report. According to National Geographic, this was due to two factors - a reduction in poaching and an increase in the number of people allowed in China's panda reserves.

However, Chinese scientists and officials said pandas are in danger until 2021. In the period between the two announcements, China designated the Giant Panda National Park to close 70% of the panda habitat, and worldwide, the number of pandas in breeding programs doubled. , according to National Geographic.

Pandas, however, are not entirely clear. Deforestation and deforestation threaten habitats, and now many habitats are close to wild pigs in northern China, which compete with bamboo shoots and carry diseases that can be passed on to pandas.

Leaders and revolutionaries of forces supporting the Libyan army on Saturday condemned the election of Fathi Bashagha as head of the new government, a move that risks sparking a new power struggle in the war-torn nation.

In a statement read in Martyrs' Square in the capital Tripoli, they said that the support force denounces "the state of absurdity that contradicts the results of the political dialogue forum and wants the country to enter a new transition phase".

The Scramble For Libya

The decisions taken by the House of Representatives (HoR) at its last meeting in Tobruk were not "according to fair and transparent procedures", they said.

They expressed "strong support for the parliamentary elections, the referendum on the constitution and the presidential elections as soon as possible," according to the statement.

The head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khalid al-Mishri, on the other hand, said that the appointment of Bashagha to replace Dbeibah fell out of the text after a "rare consensus" among parliamentary bodies on Saturday.

Incumbent Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, however, rejected the move, promising to remain in office until national elections are held.

Rival Libya Military Leaders Meet In Tripoli

Both Bashagha and Dbeibah have the backing of rival armed groups in the Libyan capital. The position of the United Nations and the major powers will be crucial in determining the outcome of the struggle for the interim government after years of foreign involvement in the conflict. The United Nations continued to support Dbeibah after the House vote. However, the United Nations said on Friday that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres took note of the move by parliament to appoint Bashagha and a move by parliament together with the HCS to plan a revised path to the election.

Stephanie Williams, UN Special Adviser on Libya, said free and fair elections in Libya should be held "as soon as possible", meeting with both Dbeibah and Bashagha.

The polls in Libya were scheduled for December 24 but were postponed due to disagreements between political rivals. No new date for the vote has been agreed so far.

In a statement, Libyan Army spokesman Colonel Mohammed Qununu said: "At 00:06 (22:06 GMT on Tuesday evening), our forces discovered an expected violation of the ceasefire declaration by fighting, the second of its kind in less than 72 hours."

He explained that the Libyan army is fully prepared and awaits instructions from Supreme Leader Fayez Al-Sarraj to address and respond to sources of fire at the appropriate time and place. On August 27, the Libyan army announced the first violation of the ceasefire, when Haftar's militia fired more than 12 missiles at the Libyan army camp, west of Sirte.

Haftar's militia spokesman Ahmed Al-Mismari said the ceasefire had not been violated, and said the purpose of the Libyan government's request was to cover up the Tripoli demonstrations.

Failure to hold a national reconciliation conference in Libya could pave the way for those who want a military solution to the country's divisions, warned Ghassan Salamé, the UN special envoy.

Time To Go Local In Libya

The conference, due to be held this month, is intended to be a precursor to this spring's presidential and parliamentary elections intended to end the divisions that have crippled the country since the ouster and assassination of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. .

Speaking at the UN security council, Salamé declined to set a date or location for the conference, instead saying he was working around the clock in the hope it would be held "in the coming weeks".

With fighting still raging in the country and political divisions established, Salamé said it was crucial that the conference takes place "under the right conditions, with the right people".

But he warned: "There will be those who seek to undermine the national conference and its results, particularly individuals who hope to delay elections so they can stay in place.

“Without the concerted support of the international community, spoilers will sabotage the political process and undo any progress. Were this allowed, Libya's progress would set back years and almost certainly open the door for those who only believe that there is a martial solution to the Wounds of Libya".

The ability to hold the national conference was cut short by the cessation of four-month fighting in the capital Tripoli and internal political infighting between key institutions, notably the House of Representatives and the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) . ).

Clashes between armed militias around Tripoli left 10 dead and more than 40 injured. There are also growing divisions within the UN-recognized GNA that could fuel some of the fighting in Tripoli.

Salamé said: “We can fight the fires, but in the end there will be a hell that cannot be put out, so we must go further and address the underlying dysfunctionalities of the Libyan state. The political stalemate has been sustained by a complex web of vested interests, a broken legal framework and the theft of Libya's vast wealth."

Salamé has been reluctant to identify those he believes are holding the country back, but the United Nations has already imposed sanctions on some militia leaders.

Libya, like many countries in the Middle East and North Africa, suffers from external actors who intervene to encourage violence or exert influence.

In the impoverished and largely lawless southwest, Marshal Khalifa Haftar has launched a military campaign that his spokesman says is seeking to stabilize the key oil field and defeat forces supplied by Turkey and Qatar.

In an attempt to balance the gloominess of the political section of his report, Salamé said he also has some green shoots, including the appointment of new ministers, the stabilization of the currency, a reduction in commodity prices of up to 40%, the end of the code to access bank funds, increase oil production to over 1 million barrels a day, transfer control of prisons from private groups and launch a plan to improve Tripoli's security.

But he admitted that much of law enforcement remained in the hands of armed groups rather than professional security officers. He also failed to mention reports that a 2019 budget for the Libyan government had not yet been agreed due to disputes over spending priorities between the central bank and the government. At 75, Marshal Haftar is considered the strong man of eastern Libya. He heads the so-called Libyan National Army. This army is actually a group of militia revolving around a core of a regular army representing a strength of approximately 25,000 men. It's not a solid, coherent block. Each militia has its own agenda and ambitions. It is not uncommon for LNA units to come into conflict with each other for various reasons (land ownership, arrest of one or more of their members, smuggling, etc.). The cohesion of the whole is so fragile that events such as the recent hospitalization of Marshal Haftar in Paris and the uncertainty about his state of health threaten at any moment to violently divide this army.

Marshal Khalifa Haftar's regular ground forces consist of several dozen units: two mechanized infantry brigades, one tank brigade, three artillery brigades, one special forces brigade, two "Rada Deterrence Forces" bringing together different brigades and a hundred units more or less the size of a brigade. type, infantry battalions, light battalions, border guards, security forces - totaling some 7,000 members.
